The Xbox One X, left. The Xbox One “S” is on the right. See? Sometimes the good guy does wear black.

It seems like every time you turn around, there’s some fancy new version of the products we love about to come out, and make us feel like complete losers if we don’t cough up more bank immediately – in not sooner, to get our grubby mitts on the latest and greatest model of the moment.

That’s the case right now when it comes to Xbox One owners. Having already produced a new model since its debut in 2013, now Microsoft is releasing an even newer version taunting us to part ways with more of our hard earned cash.

The current Xbox One “S” model is no slouch. In fact, it’s a badass gaming console. It can play all the games that have come out since the original Xbox One came out, but it’s sleeker, has more technology built in, and costs less. But that’s not good enough for us apparently. Because now, here comes the Xbox One X, a $500 system with more of everything than any other gaming console on the market.

So, the question is, is it worth it to spend twice the money for the newer version? Is it that much more impressive than the original Xbox One and Xbox One S models? Well, the major difference between the older models and the new one are graphics. Sure, 4K and HDR look great, but for $250 or more, they don’t look THAT damn impressive.

And while on paper, the Xbox One X has more horsepower and advancements, you don’t know that one bit in how it plays. Plus, when you consider that only a handful of games take advantage of the new visual capabilities of the newer console, that definitely not a compelling reason to upgrade to the Xbox One X. And the games already look ridiculously amazing on the current Xbox.

So, while in the next couple of years when the games catch up with the capabilities of the Xbox One X, it may be worth it. But right now, that would not be the best use of your gaming budget. Not to mention, that you can be damn sure that the moment you buy the newest model, another one will be right around the corner.
