If you think a wooden roof is uber manly, you are uber correct, mon ami.

If you own a house or ever build one, sooner or later you’re going to have to make a decision when it comes to one of the most expensive components of your home – the choice of what materials to use to cover your roof. These days, most so called roofing experts will try to convince you that using modern, man-made materials to get the job done is a no brainer. Well, the truth is, they’re either misinformed or they have no clue what they hell they’re talking about. As evidenced by their use for literally thousands of years, wood is the beat all-around material on the planet to protect your roof. My roofing material of choice wood be all-natural cedar shakes. Why? Lots of reasons. First of all, the ladies love cedar roofs. And why wouldn’t they? The all natural beauty of cedar gets more beautiful with age. And in terms of cost, cedar has an incredible shelf life, making it an ideal roofing material. How long you ask? On average, cedar lasts at 10 years longer the most commonly used roofing materials, like asphalt. Cedar shakes and shingle are also extremely resistant to strong winds and can hold their own against hurricanes(withstand winds up to 130 miles per hour), hail storms, heavy rains, snowstorms and other gnarly storms. They are also extremely energy efficient, providing a natural insulation up to two times as effective as asphalt shingles. Which means you will save big on home heating and cooling costs, to save you a ton of money on your energy bills. If you’re worried about fire prevention cedar shakes and shingles can be fire treated to be fire resistant. You can also have them treated to prevent moss or fungi growth. So the next time a roofing expert tells you man made material is the way to go, now you know where to tell them they can go.
