Think of this as cliff notes for people who can’t do simple math. And cheapskates.

I don’t know about you, but one of the things that annoys me most of all, is that time at the end of every restaurant meal or end of night bar tab, when it’s time to tip my server. Now, having worked at a bar and a the officer’s club at a military base when I was in college, I am a firm believer in tipping well. The problem is, I hate not knowing if I tipped enough or if I tipped too much. Fortunately for people like me who hate mixing math with the pleasure that is eating, and those who are just plain lazy – there’s an app for that. Actually, there are several, but for my money (and by “money” I mean “free”) the best by far is QuickTip, available at your friendly neighborhood app store. You simply add the bill amount and the app’s user-friendly interface gives you a fancy sliding scale to choose the percentage of tip you want to leave. And BONUS!, it also totals the bill for you. A word to the wise: Be sure you use the subtotal before tax is added to your bill to make sure you’re not tipping based on that ridiculous amount. Because tipping based on the total after tax is for suckers. You’re not a sucker are you? I didn’t think so.
